Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is/Walk the Talk

I posted an announcement for local or regional investors for an essential and low-cost PC a couple of days ago, but yet to receive any response. My counterparts in Hong Kong and Taipei have already produced the prototype for use at remote schools in Western part of China. They are more than willing to give a presentation on the prototype, if requested.

Having had some experience working with the Malaysian government's efforts at BDD, I find that apart from national policy and legal framework, sector reform and community ownership/empowerment, economical technology options is among the key factors in the success of RICs, and thus the migration to a knowledge society.

The assembly of an affordable equipment for use in rural and remote areas, as well as pockets of urban and suburban areas, is extremely crucial since the cost of imported, branded PCs are well beyond the means of most parents who are already burdened with the costs of providing a home, transportation, and other essentials. Besides, the rate of obsolescence is simply too rapid and the proprietary fees for SW simply outrageous. Which really defeats the purpose of equalising opportunities and closing the knowledge gap between the rural and urban children, youth, entrepreneurs, etc.

I could go on and on and may even start an Action Group for Better Communication Services, if they are enough people to support this cause, i.e. for improved landline and internet connection, power supply in the rural and remote areas, registration and subscription for paytv, mobile, etc.
